Food Security

If you need help securing food for your family during this closure, you aren’t alone. There are many families in this situation, and there are a number of resources you can access.

Packs for Kids

During the school closure, we are continuing the Packs for Kids Program, which provides weekend food to Sacajawea families. The Packs for Kids volunteers, staff and PTA are also working to include additional food and household items for families. If your family is not already signed up but may need food assistance right now, please contact Charlene Shanahan at cyshanahan@seattleschools.org

For those who would like to help, due to social distancing we are limiting sorting and food delivery to the packs team, and we now have drive-thru delivery for donations. Please see our donation requests to see how you can help, and thank you to our caring Sac. Community!

Childcare

Boys & Girls Club Extended Care Sites

To support those families who may be experiencing challenges due to school closures, and to ensure that all youth have a fun, educational place to go during the day, several Boys & Girls Club sites are offering extended-day programming in light of the emerging Coronavirus situation in the Greater Seattle area. See the list below for open Clubs.

Extended Programming at the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County

The Boys and Girls Club at Sacajawea is now open for a limited number of children of families who are first responders, frontline, critical staff, and families in need who are unable to work from home. They are using only the dedicated space in the Boys and Girls Club Portable and outdoors. Please contact them directly at (206) 526-1357.

Family-to-Family Care

If you need help with childcare or are able to help with childcare, consider posting a message in our Facebook Group. If you aren’t on Facebook or are concerned about privacy, please contact Charlene Shanahan at cyshanahan@seattleschools.org.

Remote Learning

We’ve gathered a collection of remote learning resources from our Principal, teachers, and Seattle Public Schools.

Well-being

From SPS Communications

As more information is learned and shared about the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), you may notice your child experiencing a wider range of emotions such as worry and fear. With the closure of schools some children might also experience sadness and frustration at and not being able to interact with their friends and school staff on a regular basis. There are many steps you can take to support your child during these uncertain times. Here are some ideas for families:

  • Reassure your child that all feelings are normal

  • Make time to talk with your child about their feelings and questions

  • Limit screen time and access to social media

  • Pay attention to what your child is watching and reading and for how long

  • Model positive self-care strategies, your child is learning how to manage their emotions from the caring adults in their life

  • Provide honest information that is age appropriate and avoid sharing assumptions about who is sick with COVID-19

  • Work with your child to develop a consistent “new” daily routine, samples will be provided early next week.

  • Public Health’s Guidelines for gatherings of children and youth while schools are closed
