Fundraising

Fundraising is one of the core functions of our PTA, and helps provide partial and full funding to so many of the programs that make Sacajawea one of the gems of North Seattle, including:

  • Visiting musician programs (kindergarten through 3rd grade)
  • Instrumental music instruction (4th grade)
  • Buses for field trips (all grades)
  • Science fair
  • Playground and recess staffing
  • Spring Arts Festival
  • Art Docents
  • All-school curriculum enrichment
  • Teacher appreciation

2017-2018 Fundraising Initiatives

This year, we hope to raise at least $85,000 to support these programs.

The three main ways for parents, friends, grandparents, and our extended community to support the Sacajawea PTA are:

September 2017: Move-A-Thon: $20,000 Goal

    • The more your kids move the more programs our PTA can
      offer our school
    • This is a great way to reach out to friends and family to
involve them in your child’s education

November/December 2017: Sacajawea Fund Direct Ask: $20,000 Goal

    • Your support enables the PTA to provide funds for
programs like the ones listed above
    • Look for a letter in your child’s take-home packet then
give or pledge early and online here at www.sacpta.org

March 2018: Sacajawea Spring Party and Auction: $35,000 Goal

    • Friday, March 23, 6:00 pm @ The Landing at Tyee on Lake Union.
    • Look forward to a fun-filled evening celebrating and supporting our fantastic school!
    • Don’t miss this raise-the-paddle event, kid’s art auction and more!
    • Tickets available at charityauction.bid/sacajawea

Beyond supporting these programs, why is all this so important?

The Situation:

  • Washington state’s public education system is drastically underfunded.
  • To make up for this shortfall, public schools rely on their communities to
support schools with both volunteers and financial giving for even basic programs.
  • The Sacajawea Elementary School community has a strong tradition of parent involvement in terms of volunteering and financial support.

The Solution:

  • The play structure in the upper playground was assembled by over 100 parents, teachers, staff and students, and our committed group of parents and friends helped us meet our fundraising goals.
  • We continue to meet our fundraising goals (with a high parent participation rate), ensuring continued essential support of key programs.
  • We’d like to continue previous years’ success so that we can expand the list of programs and services the PTA supports, such as funding school supplies for the entire school for the entire year, updating our classroom libraries, fully funding field trips, additional curriculum enrichment and more!
  • Coming together as a community is both rewarding and a lot of fun as we improve our
children’s education and build a strong foundation for their future.

What can you do?

  • Volunteer your time – Help Sacajawea beyond just giving money. There are many volunteering opportunities to fit your time and interests. Contact Ann Schlossman at amschlossman@seattleschools.org to get started.
  • Become a room parent – Room parents are critical to overall fundraising and community success and serve as liaisons between teachers and families, coordinate parents for class projects, activities and field trips. Sign up or send any questions to info@sacpta.org.
  • Come to PTA meetings – All PTA board and general meetings are open to the entire Sacajawea community. Look for meeting dates in your newsletters and on the sign board and join us if you can. We meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Library and upcoming dates are on our calendar. Children are welcome so join us if you can!
  • Join the Sacajawea Dads Group (all welcome!) – PTA meetings not your thing? A great, inclusive and awesome group of parents meet on the first Thursday evening of each month to talk about our school in a casual, fun and informal way. Contact Web Pierce for more details web.peirce@gmail.com.
  • Donate – If everyone gave $350 per student (just $30 per month) we’d exceed our goal. We know that not everyone can support at that level, but we encourage your financial support of Sacajawea in a way that is meaningful and affordable for you. If you can give today, donate to our Sac PTAvia the PayPal link on this page.

Remember no matter how you donate, Sacajawea PTA is a 501(c)3 charity and all donations are tax deductible as per IRS guidelines.

CORPORATE MATCHING – MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION GO FARTHER – Check with your HR department to see if your employer matches charitable donations. Some companies will even make a monetary contribution for hours you volunteer. Every company has their own forms and rules about matching so please check with your human resources department. If you need information to fill out a form please contact info@sacpta.org for help.
